An exciting new initiative has been launched in the North East that is free for all school children to use. It is aimed at helping schools, students and staff to learn all about waste and recycling issues and can help schools who are working towards green awards such as the Eco Schools Awards.
Schools Against Waste is an exciting, interactive online learning course that is free to use in all North East schools. The course has been coordinated by the North East Regional Improvement and Efficiency Partnership in partnership with the region’s 12 Local Authorities and Waste Aware North East. The digital format has been built by the Gateshead based Environmental Academy, a nationally recognised centre of excellence for training.
The course is free to use by all schools in the North East of England and has four different versions covering the four key stages so there is something for everyone. The Schools Against Waste content focuses on waste and waste issues in relation to homes and schools. This includes waste collection, management and sorting, reuse and recycling, waste prevention and how waste impacts on the environment. The content has been designed with an exciting mix of videos, interviews and interactive games.
Students completing the course will gain a certificate for their record of achievement which is approved by NCFE. Green jobs are on the increase with the environment and waste sector set to grow in the future.
