WRAP is the 'One Stop Shop' for Resource Management Advice and Support

Stakeholder engagement

Background

From 1st April 2010, WRAP will provide a single point of contact for businesses, local authorities and consumers looking for support and guidance to improve resource efficiency.

These changes will make it quicker and easier for people to get what they need. WRAP now provides a one-stop-shop, pulling together the support previously offered by seven resource efficiency programmes in England. They will provide a streamlined service for those we work with, delivering financial and environmental benefits to business and consumers in a way which delivers value for money for the taxpayer.

WRAP 1st April 2010 – Landscape delivery implementation

  • Integrating the services of Defra’s seven resource efficiency delivery bodies into one – NISP, Centre for Remanufacturing and Reuse (CRR), Construction Resources and Waste Platform (CRWP), Action Sustainability and the BREW Centre for Local Authorities.
  • Broadening the scope of work.
  • Emphasis on moving up the hierarchy to avoid waste in the first place.
  • Emphasis on: Designing out waste, unnecessary waste including water, minimising the amount of material used and consumer consumption.
  • Elements of resource efficiency delivered internally, contracted or outsourced.
  • New contact centre.
  • Four priority areas (see themes and programmes).

Programmes:

  • Regional Delivery Team
  • Contract
  • Products
  • Third Sector
  • AWM

Aim: Working together with Regional Delivery Partners, WRAP’s Regional Delivery Team is looking to explore strategic working opportunities with business support organisations. This will bring together national and regional campaigns and activities, develop joint working plans and identify opportunities for new tools and resources to be developed.

Objective: To move regional engagement in England to a more strategic level to allow agreement on tactics to be reached and then disseminated to the relevant delivery staff/partners thus allowing them to maintain their focus on delivery objectives and WRAP’s resource to be targeted at the areas most needed.

Activity:

  • Work with existing partners to investigate how to synchronise national and regional tactics.
  • Develop joint working plans for maximising the effectiveness of delivery through the deployment of tools, products and resources.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new approaches (tools, products, networks) to bring about change.

Team:

  • Eleanor Morris – Head of Regional Delivery Team.
  • Michael Jones – Account Manager for the North.
  • Brendan Hunter – Account Manager for the Midlands and South West.
  • Ben Blackburn – Account Manager for the Greater South East.

Delivery:

  • WRAP – Directorates: Market Development, Design and Resource Material and Business Resource Efficiency.
  • AEA Technology on behalf of WRAP – Business support work.
  • International Synergies Ltd on behalf of WRAP – Industrial Symbiosis.

The focus of the work for both Industrial Symbiosis and Improving Business Resource Efficiency services are not the same as the previous NISP and Envirowise programmes. IS will focus its activities on diverting organics waste from landfill, aligning with Defra’s carbon emissions reduction strategy. Business support will focus far more on driving material change rather than raising awareness of resource efficiency issues.
