GIANT KETTLE BUILDS UP STEAM ON NORTH EAST STREETS TO HIGHLIGHT RECYCLE WEEK

Don’t let old, broken or unwanted small electrical items go to waste-

Unusual artwork aimed at encouraging residents to recycle their small waste electronic and electrical equipment has hit the North East region’s streets for Recycle Week.

Newcastle was the first stop on the ‘giant’ kettle’s tour of the North East to mark the sixth annual national Recycle Week (21-27 June).  The next locations will be Middlesbrough, Durham, North Tyneside and Morpeth, Northumberland.

Shoppers have tried out the artwork for size and discovered how they can get involved in this year’s campaign, focusing on small electrical items.

To promote Recycle Week, the North East Improvement & Efficiency Partnership (NEIEP) is working with the region’s 12 local authorities, to encourage people from across the region to waste less and recycle more. Small electrical items include kettles, toasters, personal CD players and hairdryers.

Recycle Week provides the perfect opportunity for people in the region to find out just how easy it is to recycle any old, broken or unwanted electrical items, giving them a new lease of life.

According to research carried out by Recycle Now, three out of every four of us have at least one old or unused electrical item in our home which could be recycled to help save precious resources.  Many of these items contain important plastics and metals that can be recycled to make new products.

The street art event team is encouraging North East residents to find out more about where they can take their old, broken and unwanted electrical goods by visiting their local council’s website or www.recyclenow.com.
