Love Food Hate Waste encourages the public to take action to reduce the amount of food waste they produce

Campaign Overview

Love Food Hate WasteAround a third of all the food we buy ends up being thrown in the bin and most this could have been eaten. Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just but good food going to waste; wasting food costs the average family £420 and has serious environmental implications too.

If we all stop wasting food that could have been eaten, the CO2 impact would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 5 cars off the road. (WRAP 2008).

Our role in this national campaign is to help inform and engage the public across the North East, encouraging them to take action to reduce the amount of food waste they produce. This will both benefit the environment by preventing a waste of resources and also help to reduce the cost of living.

Waste Aware North East is working with local authorities throughout the North East to deliver a regional Love Food Hate Waste Campaign that will highlight the simple steps that can be taken to reduce food waste.
