The Community Sector has an important part to play in the management, reuse and minimisation of waste in the North East of England.

Waste Aware North East is a project with the aim of raising awareness of waste issues and recycling opportunities. The partnership brings together stakeholders from across the North East to work towards changing the way we think about waste and helping everyone to do our bit.

We work to promote positive waste messages across the region and encourage co-operation between partners on waste communications.

Waste Aware North East aims to:
  • Increase Recycling and Reuse in the North East Region.
  • Reduce the waste we produce in the first place
  • Encourage partnership working
  • Work with the Community sector to help spread the waste aware message and to encourage and facilitate new community waste projects.
Waste Aware North East and partners with funding from the Third Sector Capacity Fund have developed the Community Recycling Network North East (CRNNE)
